This wall is made from bricks taken from the Great Wall of China
05 July 2025
This wall is built from bricks that were salvaged during renovations of the Great Wall of China. According to the plaque, each brick represents a kind of stone used in the construction of the Great Wall.
This is the only known authentic piece of the Great Wall of China to ever leave the country. It was presented as a gesture of thanks by Chinese leader Sun Yat Sen to the people of Clintonville; home to the innovators behind the four-wheel-drive vehicles that made it possible to reach remote parts of China’s interior.
A section of the Wall had to be removed to make way for a railroad. Rather than discard the historic stones, they were transported by Clintonville-built trucks and later rebuilt in Pioneer Park. Among the stones came two small dog-like figures with dragon faces, originally from one of the Wall’s 25,000 watchtowers. Today, they stand as quiet reminders of a unique connection between Clintonville and one of the world’s greatest wonders.
